Experimenting with 432Hz Tuning
Recently we were introduced to the idea of the effect of tuning our instruments to A = 432Hz instead of standard tuning which is A = 440 Hz. We have decided to record our songs at both tunings and experience the difference for ourselves. One of my main acoustic guitars didn't take to 432 Hz tuning so after sleeping on the problem I came up with a fix. Try a heavier string gauge. The change was from 12-53 to 13-56 and that did the trick. As a rule heavier strings will always get more tone out of an instrument and in this case the guitar settled into the new tuning quite well. So now we have two of our older instruments ( Gibson EC180 Acoustic and Maton Messiah ) strung with 13-56 phosphor bronze strings & tuned to A = 432Hz. and we have re recorded our guide tracks at 432. You can find out more about 432Hz tuning at http://omega432.com/. For now we are going to play around with both tunings (440 & 432) and see where we end up.
